New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday announced the arrest of a major accused in the Red Fort blast case. According to the agency, this person, Aamir Rashid Ali, a plumber from Kashmir, was playing an important role in the conspiracy of this attack. The investigation has also revealed for the first time that Dr. Umar Un Nabi, who was driving the car, was a “suicide bomber”.

On the evening of November 10, 11 people were killed in a blast in a Hyundai i20 car parked near the Red Fort metro station. For the first time, NIA has declared the car, which was believed to be the cause of the accident in the initial investigation, to be a vehicle-borne IED.

How did Aamir hatch the conspiracy?

According to NIA, Aamir had come to Delhi to help Umar in buying a car. This was the same car that was later filled with explosives and used to carry out the blast in the Red Fort area. The agency said that the car was registered in Aamir's name and he was involved in planning to carry out the attack along with Umar.

Aamir has been arrested in Delhi. He is a resident of Sambura, Pampore, Jammu, and Kashmir.

How was the entire network connected from Faridabad to Delhi?

Aamir was among the three people who had come to Faridabad's Sector 27 on October 29 to collect the PUC certificate. The car was purchased through a second-hand dealer, where a third person, Sonu, worked. Aamir gets J after the blast

The explosion occurred at 6:52 pm on 10 November. The slow moving i20 suddenly exploded at the signal in front of Red Fort metro station. After the blast, the car caught fire and 11 people got injured.

How was Umar identified?

NIA has proved in a forensic investigation that Umar Un Nabi was driving the car at the time of the blast. He was a resident of Pulwama and was an assistant professor in the department of general medicine at Al-Falah University, Haryana. The agency has also seized another vehicle of Omar, which is being checked.

Till now NIA has recorded the statements of 73 witnesses in this case, including the injured people.

Which vehicles were seized?

Three other cars—Maruti Brezza, Ford EcoSport, and Maruti Dezire—have also been seized during the investigation. Information about the logistics and movement of the terrorist module is being scrutinized through these vehicles.

Are 'white collar networks' emerging?

Security agencies believe that the case is part of a wider “white-collar terrorist network,” which may have roots in Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. For this reason, agencies of different states are investigating together.

The Special Cell of Delhi Police has registered a separate FIR in this case to find out whether the attack was carried out on the lines of a suicide operation like Pulwama.

What's the next step?

Investigation teams are digging into layers of funding, additional suspects and possible foreign connections. An official said, "Teams are continuously searching in many states. This investigation is progressing at many levels and a lot is still to be revealed."
